UCC/RCDF has already held two capacity-building workshops for ICT Teachers in Mbale and Jinja. Mbale town at Reliance Reliance Hotel hosted 167 teachers from Bukedea, Soroti, Kumi, Sebei Region, Bududa, Manafwa, Sironko, Bulambuli, Budaka, Palissa, Kibuku, Tororo, Busia, Butaleja and Mbale District.
Jinja District workshop took place on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the Civil Service College had teachers from Jinja, Iganga, Kaliro, Kamuli, Luuka, Budiope, Bigiri, Bugweri, Namutumba and Namayingo district. The programme for the two capacity-building workshops included:
Computer usage monitoring software training: School ICT teachers for all the schools supported with RCDF computer laboratories will be trained on installation and use of an Open Source software called ManicTime that UCC/RCDF has tested and found to effectively monitor usage of computers.
Computer Maintenance: School ICT teachers will also be equipped with basic skills for maintenance of school computers that will help improve their life expectancy and reduce computer infrastructure down time.
ICT clubs in schools: UCC through RCDF is implementing ICT clubs in schools. These clubs are primarily designed to train students in computer infrastructure maintenance and innovations in ICT. This training will enlighten School ICT teachers on the activities that these clubs can engage in that will improve ICT usage in the schools and increase student interaction and interest in ICT.
